Quem somos
O National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) (Conselho Nacional para os Cegos na Irlanda) é uma organização beneficente sem fins lucrativos que oferece apoio e serviços em âmbito nacional às pessoas com problemas de visão. O NCBI foi fundado em 1931 e oferece muitos serviços para mais de 15.000 pessoas. O objetivo do NCBI é promover a independência total das pessoas cegas ou com deficiência visual.
Cerca de 5% das pessoas que usam os serviços do NCBI são totalmente cegas, enquanto que 95% têm graus variados de visão.
Nossos serviços

About us
The National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that offers support and services nationally to people with eyesight problems. NCBI was set up in 1931 and offers many services to over 15,000 people. The aim of the NCBI is to promote the full independence of people who are blind or vision impaired.
About 5% of people using NCBI’s services are completely blind, while 95% have varying degrees of vision.
Our services
NCBI offers specialised services, including support to children with vision problems. For example, at its Early Learning Centre in Dublin it works with children from birth to six years of age. Parents can find information about these services on the NCBI website.
Other services that NCBI offers around the country include:
- practical and emotional support;
- a low vision service;
- guidance on choosing aids and appliances;
- mobility training;
- daily living skills;
- peer counselling and professional counselling;
- employment advice;
- a national Braille, large print and audio library;
- advice on assistive technology; and
- advice to public and private organisations on user-friendly services for people who are blind of vision impaired.
